Learning Objectives:

  • Review how breastfeeding was historically discouraged among communities of color and the barriers created that still exist.
  • Examine ways economic policy, corporate structure, social movements and programs inadvertently undermine breastfeeding.
  • Understand the complex ways breastfeeding rates impact and influence culture.
  • Identify the unique ways people of child-bearing age socialize and how breastfeeding factors into those behaviors.
  • Review how professionals across many disciplines and departments can support breastfeeding through their work.
